VAR officials involved in Liverpool error not selected for weekend games

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials who made the incorrect decision to disallow Liverpool’s goal in their 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur will not be included in this weekend’s list of officials. The referees’ body, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), acknowledged the mistake and admitted that VAR should have intervened to award the goal. Following the controversy, Darren England and his VAR assistant Dan Cook were replaced for their games on Sunday and Monday, and they will not be involved in this weekend’s matches. Liverpool expressed their dissatisfaction with the incorrect application of the rules, stating that it undermined the integrity of the sport and that they would explore potential solutions. However, the on-field referee Simon Hooper and fourth official Michael Oliver have been selected for weekend duties.
