After the seven long month wait for the season premiere of The Walking Dead, fans all around the world are feeling more than loss, but utter heartbreak. Two major characters were officially killed during this season’s epic cliffhanger and will change the course of the show’s plotline.
Walking Dead fans knew the infamous villain Negan was going to condemn someone in Rick’s gang to die a horrific death. Although we didn’t know that not just one beloved character was doomed, but two.
The first victim of Negan’s bat Lucille, was Michael Cudlitz’s character Abraham. Robert Krikman, one of The Walking Dead’s executive producers, commented on Talking Dead that he gave him a great end. Kirkman and Talking Dead Host Chris Hardwick claimed that TWD’s Abraham left the show with grace, knowingly sacrificing himself for the rest of the group.
Negan’s second victim was Glenn, or as fan’s refer to his character as: the heart of this AMC show. Steven Yeun, who has portrayed Glenn for over seven seasons, claimed on Talking Dead, that he knew about his character’s death for almost a whole year.
Yuen stated that it was difficult for him not to tell fans and other’s about his character’s demise, but he didn’t really start to grieve for his own character until a few months ago. Andrew Lincoln, who portrays the main character Rick Grimes, commented that he personally feels like he lost a brother now that he won’t see Yuen on the TWD set anymore.
AMC, who usually sets up early screening of their TWD premiere episodes for reporters and other website writers, reportedly didn’t want any early leaks of information for fans to read anywhere. On Twitter, allegedly 80% of TV-related activity was about The Walking Dead’s seventh season premiere episode. This Sunday Night Football matchup of the Seahawks vs Cardinals game reportedly had low viewership numbers due to the TWD season premiere.
Talking Dead was held live in Los Angeles Hollywood Forever Cemetery to talk about the devastating episode. Talking Dead also guest starred the whole Walking Dead cast, which included Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln, Steven Yuen, Lauren Cohan, Michael Cudlitz, Sonequa Martin-Green, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand, and Jeffery Dean Morgan.
