A day care note has gotten a lot of attention from mothers, after an employee wrote that a 9-month old child, may be evil after “rough housing” with other children at the facility.
The note read, “Samantha has been playing roughly and aggressively with the other babies; they will be crying and upset but she is smiling and enjoying herself — even our using firm voices to tell her it’s not OK to hurt her friends and remove her from area, she is smiling and going right back. Can you help us out by maybe discouraging her to not play roughly with her friends and her dog.”
The note went up on Facebook, which connects working mother, who all shared some outrage regarding the note that described the child as enjoying herself when acting out. The note is implying that the child understands what she is doing and is doing it on purpose; when in reality the baby is simply acting like a baby.
Dr. Adelle Cadieux, a psychologist at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, told Babble that, “Kids go through that stage where they just to see want cause and effect: ‘If I do this, this happens. They’re learning. They get excited about the learning aspect as opposed to recognizing, ‘Oh what I’m doing is wrong.’”
Dr. Cadieux then went on to express that babies typically start to show signs of aggression around this age because they are unable to express themselves because they cannot talk yet.
The employee in charge clearly does not understand that the child’s mind is not able to comprehend her actions yet, and many are questioning if she is the right person for the job.
