Facebook Fight Results in 14-Year-Olds Death

Authorities in Alabama, reported that the three girls met to discuss a confrontation that had the girls arguing over the social media site for almost three weeks. The girls planned to meet in the park so the event could be recorded, so they could upload it to Facebook later that evening. The fight itself is unknown at this time, but the idea was to but the physical dispute online for the world to see.

As the scene developed and the fight escalated, two males who were located nearby saw the fight enfolding, and decided to open fire on them, injuring two and killing the third.

The girls were rushed to the hospital where Kierra’onna Rice, 14, was pronounced dead. It’s believed that one of the males was dating one of the girls. The two were later identified by witnesses and arrested. No names have been released at this time because authorities are waiting to file charges.

Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper gave a statement to AL stating, “It’s extremely challenging for us as a police department. It’s challenging for these families because here’s a group of kids who have decided that they’re going to fight and put it on social media where everybody can see it.”

It’s clear that the girls wanted to advertise their dispute to the public after they planned to record the fight to show others on Facebook. This shows that social media sites could be dangerous grounds for minors who are not aware of the potential dangers of trying to seek out attention from the rest of the world.
