The total number of coronavirus cases in India surpassed 18 million on Thursday after setting another world record for daily infections as grave diggers worked 24/7 to bury victims, and hundreds more were cremated on makeshift pyres in parks and parking lots.

The highest number of deaths in a single day since the pandemic began, according to the Health Department. The second most populous nation in the world is in a deep crisis in which hospitals and morgues are overwhelmed.

Get the body, get it out of the ambulance, and then bury it.” Every day, thousands of Indians desperately search social media for hospital beds and life-saving oxygen for their sick relatives. Hospital beds, which are particularly available in intensive care units, are installed in a few minutes.

“The ferocity of the second wave surprised everyone,” said K. Vijay Raghavan, the government’s chief scientific adviser in the Indian Express newspaper. “Although we were all aware of second waves in other countries, we had vaccines on hand, and no evidence from the modeling exercises indicated the magnitude of the increase.

The Indian military has started moving essential supplies such as oxygen across the country and will open its medical supplies to civilians. Hotels and railroad cars have become critical care facilities to make up for the lack of hospital beds.

A large population, experts say, and on Wednesday, it opened the registry to anyone over 18 to receive injections from Saturday. Despite being the world’s largest manufacturer of vaccines, India is out of stock for the estimated 800 million you are now eligible for; those who tried to register for the vaccination said they had failed.

Complain about social media about running out of space or just access the website as it has crashed repeatedly. “Statistics show that the system does not run incorrectly or slowly, but runs flawlessly,” said the government on Wednesday.

As many as 8 million people have signed up, it is not immediately clear how many slots they have. A local official in Mumbai said the city halted its vaccination campaign for three days because supplies were running low, while authorities said the worst-hit state of Maharashtra is likely to be strictly extended.
