New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley tweaked his hamstring in training camp this week.
Barkley, the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, injured the hamstring in practice, but it sounds like the Giants are not too worried and will be very careful with how they use Barkley for the rest of the preseason at the risk of further exasperating the injury.
“Saquon has a mild strain, and we’ll be smart with him as we move along here,” said new head coach Pat Shurmer.
It goes without saying that the Giants should proceed with caution when it comes to the man that they picked second in the draft ahead of all but one quarterback in a QB-heavy class. It’s important that this does not become a long-term injury before his career even begins. Running backs are fragile enough as is, so having him miss any time that could have been avoided is a bad look for the G-Men.
Saquon was very impressive in the Giants’ preseason game against the Cleveland Browns last Thursday. Here is his first touch of the game:

The Giants haven’t had a dynamic running back like this in years. He’s pretty clearly going to be awesome and help take a lot of pressure off of the passing game, namely Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.
They seem to have dodged a bullet here, but I’m sure we won’t see Barkley in the next preseason game anyway, as a precaution.
